Over the past year, universities across the country have been battling to come out on top and claim Esports University of the Year. It’s been no easy feat; 24 championships, 95 universities, thousands of participants and hundreds of matches played - the competition has been fierce.

We’re thrilled to announce that University of Warwick have successfully defended the title, and are Esports University of the Year champions for the 2019/2020 academic period.

Warwick took the lead by 221 points and earnt a hefty 1,611 points total throughout the entire competition. Warwick entered 27 teams/participants over the year and 7 times they placed in the top 5.

Warwick’s 5 best performing teams:

Game Team Name Team Captain Points
Dota 2 Warwick Ducks Piers Rollins 185
League of Legends Grey WW Tom Li 170
Overwatch Warwick Angels David Richardson 165
Rocket League why do i show up to fractal geometry Walden Killick 150
CS:GO Warwick Toasters Patryk Jonca 83

I couldn't be more proud of the team for securing the back-to-back championship. We've never aimed for anything less, but when the mid-season table came out we wanted to open the gap between second place. The teams all put priority on their NSE competition and it's clearly worked. I'm especially proud of our achievement through the difficult times we're in right now, as I know this affected our players across all games.

It's a perfect way for me to end my time at university. I'm handing the torch on now to a great exec team and I can't wait to watch the society live on and keep gatekeeping this trophy. Warwick Esports was built as a force to be reckoned with and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Warwick Esports Society President 2019/2020

"I'm really proud of everyone's performances in all of our games, and I am especially happy that we can lift the trophy again. Jack has been an undeniable influence on our society and performance, and we will make sure to build on his legacy.

We fully intend on continuing our dominant ways and clinching the trophy once more with the strong players we have and the amazing exec team that I work with."
