Every month we highlight a student society for doing brilliant work in the esports and gaming space, whether that be for running an excellent event, promoting positive change in gaming, or for something completely different! For November, that honour of Society Of The Month goes to Kingston's V.A.S.T. society - congratulations!

One of the reasons V.A.S.T. was chosen this month was because of the fantastic Genshin Impact event they ran at the end of October. We got the chance to hear a bit from their committee about their event and the society as a whole.

"The V.A.S.T. Society at Kingston University is basically the nerd/geek culture hub for all students of the university! We host Events nearly everyday for the duration of the university year surrounding the mediums of Videogames, Anime, Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies, and Tabletop Boardgames/TTRPGs for our wonderful community!

We also do regular outings to points of interest through the city of London whenever a special occasion such as MCM Comic Con or a new interesting movie comes out in cinemas to name the few! We have also just started getting into Esports and making teams to compete in multiple leagues both nationally and internationally!

Kais Bouarissa, our Head of Gaming and Anime, had taken full responsibility for running this special Event with close help from the rest of the committee. His role is to oversee, host, and brainstorm Events related to both mediums of Anime and Videogames, notably ensuring Member Engagement and Satisfaction within the many Events curated by this Society.

Throughout the Event, we ran multiple contests and competitions around the many aspects of the game, notably in groups/teams of 4 players each. These activities ranged from Boss Rush challenges where players had to work together to eliminate hard enemies before opposing teams to claim victory, Hunting & Gathering contests where teams were tasked to spread out and reach a certain number of collected items under both a time limit and pressure from opponents, and Marathons in which teams had to coordinate the perfect path to go from one point of the map to another in the fastest way possible.

We also had a great overall social time chatting and reviewing each other's character builds and in-game team compositions and helped each other progress or farm/grind for certain wanted items as well, and theorized about the extensive lore of Teyvat while jokingly judging each other's taste in favourite characters ;)!

We saw this Event as an opportunity to create an environment for those many players of this game to enjoy themselves and socialize, which is something not necessarily easy to do without the right conditions. Also, being able to give out gifts to this awesome community throughout was upheld lots of enthusiasm from the attendees as well!

Seeing everyone participate and having an overall great time playing all together and doing different competitions/contests was very fun! We now actively talk much more about Genshin Impact in general within our Society and have created our little group of friends surrounding the game as well! For a demographic which is usually more reserved and less out-going, seeing everyone continue talking with each other even after this Event is really great!

We look forward to whatever the future has in store for us, and wish to host many more successful Events soon!"
