University of Portsmouth have been selected as the Pot Noodle Society of the Month for September for smashing their Freshers Week with an amazing fair and creative events!
We spoke to their president, Arnau "The Half-Blood Prince", to find out more...
Freshers Fair looked like a big success for Portsmouth Esports this year, how did it go from your perspective? What was the atmosphere like on the day, and how did students respond to your stall and activities?
Freshers Fair was amazing this year. We got over 100 new members just from the day itself. The atmosphere was great, with lots of people coming to the stall, asking interesting questions, and taking part in the “Guess the Rank” activity we prepared. Many of them are really looking forward to starting to compete in NSE!
You also hosted "Freshers Fusion", a 1v1 tournament where students faced off against your exec team. Could you tell us a bit more about that?
We set up a few PCs where new members could play 1v1 matches against the exec team. It was a fun and engaging way for students to meet us, break the ice, and get to know the esports exec team in a more entertaining environment.
How did the idea for that event come about, and what were some of the highlights or memorable moments from running it?
The idea came from wanting to create an event where new members could meet the exec team in a relaxed way while also showing off their skills. One of the highlights was seeing freshers challenge our more experienced players and even win some of the matches. The energy in the room was great, and it really helped people feel part of the society from the start.
Looking ahead, what are Portsmouth Esports’ goals for the rest of the academic year?
Our main goal this year is to give all our members a fun and rewarding experience while competing against universities across the UK. We’re also excited to host both LAN and online events throughout the year. And of course, we want to hold on to our 2nd place in the NSE rankings, and maybe even challenge Warwick for the top spot.
