Our November Society of the Month is the Exeter Esports Society - Congratulations!
We chose Exeter Esports Society for the effort they put into hosting their first LAN, featuring show matches between the first teams of Exeter's and Plymouth's esports teams across 5 different titles. The event was supported by Intel's "Event in a Box" program, where societies can apply to have 10 PC setups delivered to their event to run activities from. Exeter Esports Society definitely put the hardware to good use!
Exeter Esports Society using the Intel PCs
We reached out to "Pixel", the President of Exeter Esports Society, to find out more about the society's LAN event and beyond! Here's what he had to say:
It was great seeing so many photos of your event on your socials, tell us more about the event!
To get as many people involved as possible, our event took place over the whole weekend. On Saturday, we set up in a small seminar room and invited our members to come along and play. While on Sunday we welcomed Plymouth Esports to our campus to compete in a Bo5 over a range of games.
What was your favourite activity your society ran at your event?
My favourite activity was our competition against Plymouth on the Sunday. This is because it allowed our 1st teams to play competitively on LAN, a 1st for many of the players.
How did your society use the Intel Event in a Box PCs?
We made the most of the Intel Event in a Box PCs, by spreading the event over two days and making sure that all society members had the opportunity to get involved. Whilst also setting aside a day for our first teams to play against Plymouth's teams.
Is there anyone you want to shout-out that helped bring the event to life?
I'd like to shout out our Social Secretary Samantha (Lovate) for promoting the event and handling our social media throughout the event.
I'd also like to shout out our Media Officer Dan (Doomskull) for handling our Twitch stream on the Sunday.
And finally, Alex (Firey) the Chair of Plymouth Esports, as without his involvement the tournament on the Sunday couldn't have happened.
What can we hope to see next from Exeter as we head towards the new year and the second semester?
Over the second semester we are looking to continue to improve our overall NSE rankings (a challenge as that means coming 1st). To do so we are currently working with our Students Guild to receive support from the university. We also aim to grow both our social media presence and Twitch stream.
